Rotterdam, Netherlands, July 25th, 2024 – Hodl Ventures and the DFINITY Foundation, a major contributor to the Internet Computer (ICP), announce a strategic partnership to foster new artificial intelligence (AI) blockchain projects, leveraging their combined capabilities to provide optimal support for the brightest blockchain and cryptocurrency founders.

This collaboration marks a significant milestone for both organizations as we unite our expertise to foster innovation and drive growth within the digital assets sector. By joining forces, Hodl Ventures and Internet Computer are committed to guiding and empowering the next generation of blockchain-based AI projects.

With both firms observing the immense potential of AI and its integration with blockchain technology, this partnership will strengthen emerging projects and founders focusing on decentralized AI.

At Hodl Ventures, we're thrilled to partner with the DFINITY Foundation to support their AI initiative. The Internet Computer's prominent role in supporting new projects building at the intersection of AI x Blockchain is evident. We look forward to supporting their strategy in backing web3 developers who are building the future of DeAI,” said Anton Shakur, Head of Hodl Ventures.

Jan Camenisch, CTO of the DFINITY Foundation said “The intersection of blockchain and AI is becoming one of the most competitive and innovative areas in the industry. The DFINITY Foundation is proud to partner with Hodl Ventures to support and collaborate with projects exploring decentralized AI. The Internet Computer is the only platform that can run AI as a smart contract and we’re excited to see what builders can do with this capability”

Hodl Ventures, established in 2021, was founded to support visionary founders who are shaping the future of web3 and blockchain. Its VC fund empowers promising blockchain entrepreneurs and startups by offering long-term financial support and strategic guidance across several core verticals, including AI x Blockchain.

The Internet Computer is the only blockchain that can run AI as a smart contract. Dominic Williams, Founder of the DFINITY Foundation has recently demonstrated image classification and facial recognition running as smart contracts on the Internet Computer. Decentralized AI involves running AI training and inference as smart contracts on-chain, which addresses AI’s trust issues. Users can verify the inputs to the models they utilize, reducing the need to trust them blindly. However, AI training and inference are highly resource-intensive, and the limited computational capabilities of traditional blockchain networks often fall short. In contrast, the advanced design of the Internet Computer Protocol (ICP) successfully marries the security of smart contracts with the robust computational demands of AI. The following properties of ICP make decentralized and trustworthy AI possible.

The DFINITY Foundation and Hodl Ventures are looking forward to an exciting period in which both organizations can share and leverage each other’s expertise and experience within the industry to further develop Decentralized AI.

About Hodl Ventures

Hodl Ventures was established in 2021 by members of the Hodl Funds team, who recognized that their investment funds only provided exposure to the secondary market of digital assets. Over the subsequent years, Hodl Ventures has strategically positioned itself as a boutique investment firm, supporting emerging projects with capital, network, and expertise. In addition to assisting innovative founders, Hodl Ventures aims to offer these unique opportunities to professional investors, addressing the challenges typically faced in the venture capital industry.

About the Internet Computer:

The Internet Computer is currently used by millions of users and runs thousands of applications. Applications on the Internet Computer are built from smart contracts giving them the security features from blockchain, making them tamper-proof and unstoppable. Different from other blockchain platforms, smart contracts on the Internet Computer are very powerful and on par with traditional software: they can serve web content, interact with any other Internet services, and process large amounts of data. A further difference is that due to the unique architecture and novel cryptography, the Internet Computer is energy efficient and comparable with traditional software that runs on Big Tech's cloud services, and orders of magnitude lower than competing blockchains.

About DFINITY:

The DFINITY Foundation was established in Zürich, Switzerland, in 2016. Since then, it has become the largest blockchain tech employer in Switzerland and the DACH Region, with talented people from local and international organizations, such as IBM Research, Google Research, Meta, etc. The DFINITY Foundation is the creator and a major contributor to the Internet Computer, a third-generation blockchain that extends the functionality of the Internet from a network that connects devices globally to a computing platform that hosts systems and services directly on the blockchain.
