Frequent Questions

What should I pay attention to when investing in digital assets?
+
Investing in digital assets requires a different approach than investing in stocks or bonds, as this new investment category is under constant development. While investing in digital assets brings risk and volatility, it also offers significant return opportunities. At Hodl, we recommend that investors adopt a long-term perspective when investing in this technology.

You can find more information about the risks and other essential things you should review in advance in the Investment Memorandum (IM) or Private Placement Memorandum (PPM). You can find these documents per fund on the fund page.
What makes Hodl unique?
+
Hodl distinguishes itself through a combination of many years of experience in the traditional financial world and deep expertise in the crypto market. Since 2020, we have been managing professional crypto funds with AFM registration in the Netherlands, allowing investors to participate within a familiar regulatory framework. Security is always a top priority: whenever possible, our assets are stored via Fireblocks, a leading infrastructure provider for institutional custody.

In addition, Hodl works with a multidisciplinary team of analysts, quants and developers who design and manage a broad range of strategies, from directional and algorithmic approaches to market-neutral and high-Sharpe strategies. This combination of regulation, institutional-grade security and deep strategic expertise uniquely positions Hodl to guide professional investors in the world of digital assets.
How do I become a Hodl investor?
+
To become a Hodl investor, it's important to first meet with our financial specialists at one of our local offices or virtually if preferred. Together we assess the role of digital assets in your investment portfolio. We will also review the necessary documentation, which you can complete at home.

When the verification process is finished, you can transfer the preferred investment to Hodl. On the last day of the month, your investment will officially enter the Hodl funds. Once you become a Hodler, you will gain access to our client portal where you can monitor the performance of your investment. To keep you informed, you will also receive biweekly and monthly updates via our investor newsletter.
What is Hodl’s fee structure?
+
Hodl's fee structure consists of two components: the management fee and the performance fee.

Management fee
Hodl's management fee stands at 2% annually on the invested assets. This management fee is calculated and collected monthly.

Performance fee
Hodl's performance fee is 20% on the positive returns achieved and is calculated using a High Watermark in Net Asset Value (NAV). The performance fee is calculated monthly and deducted from the net income. The High Watermark is resetted annually.
What does Hodl do in terms of security?
+
Security is at the heart of everything we do at Hodl. Whenever possible, the assets in our funds are stored in the offline self-custody environment of Fireblocks, the market leader in institutional security solutions, which uses technologies such as MPC, whitelists, multi-signatures and restricted access rights to ensure that all transactions are controlled and authorised. In addition, the assets in the funds are held separately from the operational entity and are safeguarded by Stichting Bewaarder Fintech & Blockchain.

Hodl operates within an AFM-registered framework in the Netherlands, which means we meet strict requirements in terms of organisation, governance and risk management. We also continuously focus on operational security, including IT security and clear procedures for incident management. In this way, we combine technological protection with robust processes to safeguard our investors' assets as effectively as possible.
Are the Hodl funds under supervision?
+
Currently, it is not yet possible for a Dutch crypto fund to be placed under direct supervision of the AFM. The Hodl.nl Genesis Fund is, however, registered with the Dutch Authority for the Financial Markets (AFM) as an alternative investment fund manager under registration number 50025134.

This registration means that Hodl applies a KYC and AML policy based on the Dutch Financial Supervision Act (Wft) and the Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Prevention Act (Wwft).
